Vice President, Energy & Power Project Finance Portfolio Management

Corporate & Investment Banking ("CIB") delivers a comprehensive suite of capital markets, banking, and financial products and services. About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Vice President to support CIB Banking's Energy & Power Project Finance Portfolio Management team, which manages a growing loan portfolio with significant activity, including refinancings, project finance monitoring, waivers, and amendments. Wells Fargo's growing Renewables & Asset Finance ("RAF") business is an integral part of the Power, Utilities & Renewables ("PUR") group within Energy & Power, providing financing, capital markets and advisory services to corporate clients across. Our coverage universe includes renewable developers, independent power producers, infrastructure and private equity funds, and utilities globally, supporting lending activity across renewables, thermal generation, midstream, and broader energy infrastructure assets. The PUR group is a market-leading franchise in the sector, including top ranked positions in the equity and debt capital markets league tables.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and oversee credit aspects (including structured financings such as construction, operating, and warehouse facilities, as well as corporate Holdco financings) of a broad portfolio of sponsor-owned portfolios or public companies across energy transition / renewables sector, thermal generation, midstream and energy infrastructure
  • Perform detailed credit, financial statement analysis, industry analysis and projection modeling to ensure accurate and timely monitoring, accurate risk ratings, covenant compliance, watchlist updates, recognition of potential problems loans of a leveraged credit portfolio
  • Lead credit underwriting, with the support of the Associate & Analyst, for a portfolio of accounts
  • Provide high touch portfolio monitoring, trending & analytics and aggregate reporting
  • Provide and present portfolio updates as needed to senior leadership, risk management and coverage partners
  • Perform monthly monitoring of operating & construction financings for renewable assets (wind, solar, and energy storage), including reviewing operating reports as well as progress and monthly construction draws
  • Lead coordination and execution of loan booking, closing, legal documentation and compliance requirements
  • Review and interpret credit policies and procedures and incorporate requirements into credit analysis, observations and monitoring
  • Assist with coordination and preparation for borrower/portfolio reviews and responses for internal and external exams
  • Manage communication between Borrowers and the syndicate of lenders for transactions where we act as Administrative Agent, in collaboration with the Leveraged Finance team
  • Provide ongoing market intelligence to the team on coverage sectors and its main participants
  • Participate in the training and development of analysts within the team
  • Represent the bank in maintaining relationships with clients
  • Review credit agreements and contribute to the analysis and review of project documents including but not limited to Consultant Reports, Power Purchase Agreements, Operations & Maintenance reports
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, internal partners and stakeholders, including clients
  • Be involved with managing, mentoring and training junior team members

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Experience in CIB Portfolio Management, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Portfolio Management experience with large corporate clientele.
  • Experience in deal execution or portfolio management in energy project finance, energy transition or tax equity sectors.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong accounting skills and ability to analyze financial statements.
  • Experience with serving as a peer mentor while training and developing less tenured colleagues.
  • History of exercising sound judgment and making timely decisions in a fast-paced and results-driven environment.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong credit and technical skills and accounting knowledge.
  • Experience in building partnerships, collaborating across lines of business, and effectively communicating at all levels of an organization.
