Legal Assistant I The District Attorney’s Office of Boulder County is hiring a Legal Assistant I to provide legal support work to attorneys and perform a variety of non-routine and complex office duties requiring familiarity with the legal field and a moderate degree of independent judgment. Work hours: Monday through Friday with periodic weekend court duties. The position may be based in Boulder or Longmont office. This full-time, benefited position is non-exempt under FLSA guidelines. Boulder County requires employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. Benefits Work from home two days a week, after 6 months of employment, if duties allow. Enhanced extended parental leave policy for up to an additional 12 weeks of leave. Responsibilities Enter data for criminal cases in the case management system. Request essential discovery and related documents for active criminal cases. Assist with preparation, electronic filing and service of motions and other documents. Review, verify and process documents requiring knowledge of departmental procedures and legal/non-legal documents. Update case events and enter dispositions. Prepare and send subpoenas. Maintain clear and frequent communication with assigned deputy district attorney and work in a team environment. Perform specialized projects that are technical and confidential. Utilize specialized computer applications, including the office-specific program ACTION, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) and Adobe. Knowledge of NCIC and CCIC information systems for running criminal histories. Access law enforcement systems for reports, body cam, dash cam, and other media related to criminal cases. Follow guidelines and procedures to maintain certifications for government and law enforcement databases. Accurate typing skills and at least 40 words per minute. Cover front desk duties as needed. Work one weekend day, 3-4 times a year. Perform related work as required. May be reassigned in emergency situations. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of office experience, including at least 1 year in the legal profession. Additional related education may count toward required experience. Ability to work in a standard office environment. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to master internal legal software. Knowledge of office practices and procedures sufficient to organize and maintain files, records, and schedules and to process documents in a timely manner. Skill in examining documents for correctness, completeness, and accuracy. Skill in prioritizing, coordinating, and scheduling work. Strong communication skills. Strong commitment to teamwork and effective collaboration with employees, supervisors, and the public. Ability to work with attorneys and provide a high-quality work product to assist them.
